I recently saw a post on social media that asked the question, “1 trillion dollars or 10 minutes with Jesus, you choose”? The sad truth is that many would choose the money over a personal sit down with the Son of God and Savior of the world. At Christmas time people are making similar choices as well. It comes down to desiring presents given by others over desiring the presence of Jesus, spending time worshipping Him during a season that commemorates His birth. It isn’t that there is anything sinful or wrong about the secular activities which include the giving of gifts, but the problem arises when it is as if Christmas has nothing to do with Jesus at all and where people get too busy with the secular to participate in the spiritual.
When Jesus came to earth as a baby in a manger it was the presence of God in human flesh. Matthew 1:23 speaks of this when it states, “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means “God with us”)”.
Spend time this Christmas celebrating the fact that God so loved the world that He gave us the greatest gift ever given, His Son, to save us from our sins and to give us eternal life. Spend some time this weekend in a service where Christ’s birth is celebrated. If you don’t have a home church, we at New Beginnings will be having 3 Christmas Eve candlelight services, 4,5, and 6 p.m. and one service on Christmas Day at 11 a.m.
Come let us celebrate the King.
