It stands to reason that military personnel would want a president who supports the military.
No, I’m not about to force my opinion on who is the best candidate down your throat. No, I’m not going to write a long, unnecessary column bashing our president or on the Republican candidates. I may or may not spend it bashing on American citizens, military in particular, who take no interest in what’s going on in the political arena.
I mean, really, if you’re in the military, the president is your commander and chief. He or she is literally your boss. Not only that, but if you’re in the military, you’re given the opportunity to choose your boss. Very few people can say that.
Now I’m not saying that every soldier needs to be able to recite all of the stances held by each candidate. Not even the candidates themselves seem to be able to do that. I’m just saying that it’s important to take an interest. Flip on the news every once in a while or read a newspaper or internet article about what’s going on in the presidential race. Know which candidate you like and know why you like them.
And military spouses, this goes for you, too. So much of our lives is determined by the president, so it’s just as important for us to get involved and informed on what the incumbent president or the candidates are planning when it comes to our military.
Let’s not leave this up to chance. It’s time to get interested in the things that directly impact our day-to-day lives. It’s time to participate in the system instead of rolling our eyes at it. It’s time to see beyond the political mumbo jumbo to get to the heart of the issues that matter to us as military families and as Americans.
