Pembroke Mafia Football League: Entering the tenth week
football

Alex Floyd, Local Columnist

Games this weekend

• Auburn-Ole Miss

• Florida- UGA

• Ohio State-USC

• Mizzou- Arkansas

• Purdue-Penn St

• Clemson- FSU

• Ga Tech-Pittsburgh

• GSU-App State

• Washington- Nebraska

• South Carolina- Oklahoma

The chaos continues as the 2026 football season rolls on. The only thing that can be counted on so far this year is County Administrator Ben Taylor’s lead. With his five correct picks this week he advances to sixty-one winners on the season.

A sneaky dark horse candidate emerges from the fog however, as Chairman Carter Infinger with an impressive eight winning picks leapfrogs a few of us to fifty-two wins.

In between are the Elder Statesmen BJ Clark and Ted O’Neil tied with fifty-seven wins and the Bourbon Triumvirate Mike Clark, Mike Brown and Jeffro P. Whitten with fifty-five wins. On the bottom shelf are Timber Tycoon Bob Floyd at fifty-one, Doctah Doctah Gimme the News Gene Wallace at forty-seven, Yours Truly at forty-five and Ain’t-takin-Noah-foran- Ansah Covington at forty- four.

• This week we lead off with Auburn at Ole Miss. The War Eagle can always count on BJ Clark.

Joining him is Mike B, Jeff, Mike C and Me. Rest cheer on the Rebs.

• The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party descends on Gainesville this weekend with the Georgia Bulldogs and the Florida Gators.

Ted, Mike B and Jeff pick the Gators. Rest of us are right…. I hope.

• Big Ten matchup as THE Ohio State Buckeyes go to Sunny California to play the USC Trojans.

I can’t figure out a way these two teams can both lose so I pick *hack ick blech* Ohio State (wash my hands from typing it). Everyone but Jeff is with me.

• Mizzou goes to Razorback Stadium

in beautiful Fayetteville, Arkansas. Arkansas has a reputation as a late season spoiler. BJ, me, Bob, Jeff and Ben think this is the one for the Hawgs.

• Purdue @ Penn State.

Purdue is coming off a loss and a bye week and Penn still needs a conference win. Penn St has 8 points on the spread.

Kickoff ’s at 4:15 so we’ll all be watching the Ga-Fla but me, Bob, Noah and Mike B pick the Boilermakers.

• ACC matchup Clemson @ Florida State.

Florida State leads the series 21-17 but Clemson has won the last two. A 7:00 kickoff on Halloween Night ought to be a party either way. Noah and Mike C pick Clemson, rest ride with the Noles.

• Georgia Tech @ Pittsburgh.

Lord help ‘em. Georgia Tech can’t win a one ticket raffle. Jeff, Doc and Mike C think they might win this one.

Rest of us think Pittsburgh wins at home.

• Maybe my favorite football game of the year Georgia Southern University vs Apalachin State University. A struggle as old as time this time in Statesboro. Kickoff is at 6:30 and it ought to be a slobber-knocker from start to finish.

BJ, Ben, Jeff, Noah and Mike C pick the Eagles and I hope they’re right but I can see Clay Helton snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

• Washington @ Nebraska kick off 8:00 in Lincoln. It’s a Halloween Black Out game and the first time Nebraska has played at home on Halloween since 1998. Both coming off a bye week ready to get down. Doc is our lone Washington picker.

• Finally South Carolina @ Oklahoma.

Gamecocks are strutting like Dominecker roosters after a win against Tennessee. Mike B, Jeff, Noah, me and Doc think they keep right on strutting and cocka-doodly- doin.
