When she’s not fitting the locals for a set of XXXL Liberty’s, she throws a heck of a Christmas Party according to her favorite nephew Jeff Whitten who’s taking a hiatus this week from his duties as a retired icon of local journalism and not so retired scourge of Effingham County.
This is a very special week as we honor our veterans like BJ, Jeff, Mike Brown and so many others. By the time this paper comes out we’ll have observed Veterans Day in Pembroke and Richmond Hill, but we owe these folks a debt of gratitude every day. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for standing in the gap and safeguarding the freedoms we enjoy in the greatest country on earth.
Other than writing this nonsense thanks to the Freedom of the Press™, I exercised another freedom last week bearing arms in the Bryan County Chamber’s Annual Clay Shoot. I was placed on one of the Development Authority’s teams with another veteran, Mr. Buck Holly. If you don’t know Buck, he makes gun parts and shoots things a half mile or more away for a living, so my entire goal was to stay within a dozen misses of him. The Good Lord heard my prayers as Buck shot 41 and I shot 38 of our 50 rounds. The other Development Authority team was led by Chairman Carter Infinger who shot 40. A good time was had by all, and we thank the Chamber for the opportunity to help fill their scholarship fund.
