Love was the motivating factor
pastor corner

This time of year Christians all around the world celebrate the event of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Scripture tells the story of God sending his Son to earth in human form to rescue us from our sins. One of the questions to ask is, “What would motivate such an awesome powerful God to do such a thing?”

The answer is none other than love and is found in at least two places in the Bible.

One is in 1 John 4:9 where it says, "This is how God showed his love among us; He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him."

The other is found in probably the most familiar verse in the Bible, John 3:16, where it reads, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

We need to remember that love should be a factor that motivates us to do certain things for others. One of the reasons we give gifts is because we love those to whom we are giving them.

Also, love shows itself through our actions. Jesus showed his love by dying on the cross for our sins. If we truly love others we will be willing to give up our lives in service to others as well.

So this Christmas season be thankful for the love shown us by God and be willing to show more love to others.
