History is filled with tragedy and loss all of the way up to our present day.
Recently, on the news, was this story of 5 people lost in the Titanic bound submersible. Compare this to 1,500 lives lost in 1912 with the sinking of the Titanic. There are those who are killed in car accidents and through sickness and disease. There are those who lose their lives in wars etc.
The truth of the matter is that those loved ones who are left behind hurt deeply and it is a real loss.
It is within humanity to get into close relationships with family and friends and grieve when they are taken from us.
There is great news! Our loss doesn’t have to be final; we can be reunited with those we lose. The Apostle Paul made an extreme statement in Philippians 1:21 when he said that “to live is Christ but to die is gain”. He is not saying that he wanted to die right then and there but what he saying is this: as long as God wants me here on this earth doors will open to share the good news of Jesus Christ, but when He chooses for me to die, I still win because I get to spend eternity in heaven. This promise of eternal life and this opportunity to reunite is only given to those who choose to follow Jesus Christ and to accept the free gift of salvation brought about by the sacrificial death of Jesus. We find this promise in one of the most known verses in the Bible, John 3:16, where it states, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”.
The key question is this: Have you personally accepted this free gift?
