Longing for the Kingdom
pastor corner

When the disciples of Jesus asked Him how to pray, one of the topics that came up was God’s kingdom. Jesus instructed them to pray that this kingdom would come. Come where?

First, we need to pray for those who are not yet subjects of God’s spiritual kingdom.

We need to pray that this kingdom will become a reality in their lives. Jesus told His disciples in Luke 17:21 that the kingdom of God was within them. In order to become part of this spiritual kingdom, we must surrender our lives to the King, Jesus.

Also, there is a future kingdom where Christ will come from His throne in heaven and set up an earthly throne.

We should realize that we as believers are just on a journey here on earth awaiting our future eternal home. The Apostle Paul refers to this in Philippians 3:20 where he says, “our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ”.

We should eagerly desire for that which God has prepared for us. We should not fall in love with this world and all it offers because, in reality, we will continually be disappointed. I think I figured out a few years ago why God allows us, His creation, to get old and decrepit. He doesn’t want us to fall in love with this world but be eager for the next.

One of the last things said in the Bible is a prayer from the author John that plainly says, “Come, Lord Jesus”. This needs to be our prayer as well, as we await a time when Jesus comes to reign and make all things right.
