Dear Mr. Semmes,
Thank you for writing your delightful article about my birth place Maxeys, GA.
Jesse Maxey was my great grandfather. We moved to Atlanta when I was age four, some 80 years ago. I felt Atlanta in those days was about the size of Savannah.
At age eight, I would ride the bus by myself to downtown Atlanta to the doctor, for music lessons, etc.
Things have sure changed.
As an adult I realized what a smart woman my Mother was. My brother, sister and I were sent to Maxeys each summer and spent a week with my Mother’s sister (who wrote for the Echo), my Grandmother Mrs. Jesse Maxey, then a week with my Father’s sister. My Mother stayed in Atlanta. Then we started over with our delightful aunts and Grandmother.
We loved going to Maxeys each summer and getting to know some of Maxeys’ wonderful people and attending the Methodist and Maxeys’ Christian churches.
I have forwarded your email on to my two sons, my grandchildren and some of my other family members who l am certain will enjoy reading your interesting email! I intend to send it to additional family when I get their current email addresses.
Again thank you sincerely for your article and your informative email. You are a very talented writer and a generous person with your time and knowledge!
Thank you!
Barbara Maxey Murphy
