Letter to the editor: Reader thanks Dick Yarbrough for column (Dec. 14)
LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Sir: I just wanted you to know how moved I was by your story. I was in Vietnam 68-69 with the 25th infantry. During that period there was intense fighting--some times eye to eye--during this period.

During a night mission, my team engaged the enemy off our left flank. They literally walked into us. We were just a three man team and I lost my closest friend and my machine gunner during the engagement. I’ve never forgotten and about 20 years ago, my wife and I went to DC. This gave me the opportunity to visit the memorial and see Gary’s name on it.

I didn’t expect my reaction and the memories that flooded back. I’ll never forget either experience. By the way if you remember the three man statue at the site that could have been my team. You’ll have to forgive me, I don’t really talk about it a lot. Another thing I and most veterans are very concerned about the future of our country with the invasion and what appears to be brainwashing in our educational institutions.

Thanks for your time.

Ed Edwards, Ellabell.
