Letter to Editor: Congress is MABA
Letter to the Editor generic

Editor:

The Wall Street Journal called it, “the Worst Spending Bill in History.”  On Dec. 23, after their previous reckless spending gave us a horrific 8.5 percent inflation rate in 2022, the U.S. congress passed a $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill packed with 7,200 earmarks, “Pork” and wasteful spending, including the following:

$1 million for the rock & roll hall of fame.

$1.2 million for a LGBTQ Pride Center

$3 million for a LGBTQ museum in New York City.

$3.5 million for a Michelle Obama hiking trail in Georgia. Guess who?

$4 million for a swimming pool at Covina High School in California.

$5 million for the upper Columbia United Tribes Salmon reinstatement project.

$575 million for Family Planning in areas that are threatening bio-diversity.

$212 million for Vermont, the home of Senator Leahy.

$762 million for Alabama, the home of Senator Shelby.

And $410 million for border security for Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and Tunisia.

But no money to build a wall for security on our southern border.

And 7,000 more just like these and worse.

Congress has  forgotten what then-Senator Barak Obama said about our national debt in July 2008:

“The problem is...we are taking out a credit card in the name of our children.. and driving up the national debt. We now have over $9 trillion in debt that we are going to have to pay back. That’s $30,000 for every man, woman and child.  That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic,” he said.

Congress has failed us once again. Our national debt is now over $31 trillion.

They are worse than a bunch of children in a toy store.  All they can think about is getting what they want, buying votes and preserving their power. They seem to have no concept of a budget or living within our means. They seem to be ignorant of the historical record of the many nations that have destroyed their economies by huge debts?

Apparently Congress new vision for the year is:   MABA “Make America Broke Again!”

Happy New Year,
