It is easy to say the words “I love you,” but it is quite another thing to show it. We are told that we are to love God with all of our being, but how can we know that we truly love him?

The answer is given to us in John 14:21, where Jesus said, “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.”

In other words, there is a test that reveals whether we love God or not. If we have a desire to keep his commandments, we pass the test. But if we don’t, we fail the test.

If we love God, we will want to know what things he wants us to do and what things he doesn’t want us to do. We will want to please him and make him happy.

It will affect our prayer life because we will desire to be in his presence. It will affect how much we read and study his word because it is there that we find his commands. It will affect our witnessing because we will want to fulfill the great commission to let others know of this love relationship.

We have the ability to love God because, when he comes into our lives by way of his Holy Spirit, he pours out that love into our hearts. He first loved us and we can follow in his steps, which will make us able to love him as well as others around us.
