Richmond Hill is in mourning.
The events that took place Monday night and led to the death of Shirley Hiers are nothing short of tragic. And a close-knit community is left wondering what happened, and a family is left without its “Best Grannie Ever.”
Hiers was a regular freelancer for the Bryan County News, contributing feature columns about love, life, family, friends and Richmond Hill. And by all accounts, people loved her stories – just like they loved her.
Hiers was laid to rest Friday, and there’s no doubt she’ll be welcomed with open arms at the gates of heaven. But here on earth, there will be a hole in the collective heart of Richmond Hill – one that will be difficult, if not impossible, to mend.
We at the Bryan County News offer our sincere condolences to all of Hiers’ family and loved ones. She was truly a kind-hearted woman who will not soon be forgotten.
