Dr. Lawrence Butler

The Bridge Church, Pembroke

It was a Thursday, just like most every other, when Davy and Natalie Lloyd crossed the road from their compound in Haiti. The protective barriers surrounding their home were needed because of local violence, but this day seemed to be calm. The young couple had enjoyed an evening of youth activities at a nearby church.

On the return trip home, they were accosted by a gang that beat Davy, tied him up and proceeded to rob the compound. I do not know at this time what occurred to his wife. In just a little while after the gang left, another gang arrived. Conflict erupted and ended with the deaths of Davy and Natalie, even as Davy was on the telephone with his father. (Details may become clearer later) Davy was the son of Missionaries David and Alicia Lloyd who had founded an orphanage in Haiti in the year 2000. They had reared their children in Haiti, and their son and daughter-in-law were actively engaged in Christian ministry. Davy was most likely on his way to becoming the leader of this ministry and have a powerful impact on Haiti.

With his wife of approximately 2 years with him, they were in charge of the work while parents David and Alicia were in the US for a short period of time. However, on that fateful Thursday evening of May 23, 2024, those tragic events occurred which will forever scar this ministry.

I met Missionary David Lloyd at a conference a few years ago. I arranged a donation to assist him in a need that was presented in that meeting. For several years prior to that conference my wife and I, along with other families in our church, had started supporting the children of this orphanage with gifts and financial donations. As a father, I cannot imagine being able to go back to this place and continue the ministry which cost my son his life. But then I’m reminded of David Wilkerson whose ministry began in New York City because of gang violence. As a result of a despicable crime, the ministry of Teen Challenge was birthed and has helped many young people since its founding. My prayer for David Lloyd is that God will grant grace that this ministry will continue, and from the blood of its martyrs a still greater work for God will spring forth. What a miracle of grace it would be if God saved these marauders and changed their hearts.

“But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound” (Rom. 5:20).

Please pray for the families of Davy and Natalie Lloyd.
