Dee McLelland: Big things happening at papers
Dee McLelland new

It’s amazing how fast 2021 is moving right now.

Both the Coastal Courier and Bryan County News have been fast at work over the first months of the year and we are closing in on several big events for both papers in the coming months.

Our 2021 Best of Liberty Reader’s Choice event will kickoff next week when nominations begin online at coastalcourier.com.

The event, which has been a staple of our community for many years is being planned to be one of the largest and best events ever as we believe our communities in Liberty and Long county continue to rebound from the tough 2020 pandemic.

I believe this to certainly be true after our Bryan’s Favorites this past February drew amazing results and our evening event was said to have been one of the best ever and the attendance was outstanding. The same can be said for our Best of Liberty event held last August. While the crown had to be limited, the sense of enjoyment and friendship was outstanding. I expect nothing less this year as we have streamlined some categories, added some new ones and are preparing for the most fun-filled night ever!

We have already lined up our musical guests for the night as Bucky and Barry from Savannah will return again to entertain our crowd with great music and fun. The duo was also a hit at our Bryan’s Favorites and we might be on the verge of signing them to a lifetime contract if things keep going as good as they are!

Our Bryan County News staff is currently working on our 2021 Newcomers Guide and will be compiling stories, photos and special things to showcase all of the wonderful things Bryan County has to offer.

I must admit while Richmond Hill is fantastic and it continues to grow and prosper, I enjoy the drive through the other parts of the county with my favorite being between Pembroke and Ellabell through some of the winding roads.

Being an old Alabama boy, those roads make me feel almost back home sometimes and then hitting Richmond Hill makes it seem like I’ve made it to the “big city.”

Regardless, as the temperatures heat up, we are planning big things for the coming months which will include our very first Regional Football Guide which will cover all the high school teams in Liberty, Long and Bryan County! More on that coming soon.

Big things folks, big things!

If you see me, say “Hey!”
