I am really happy, really

If you ignore the 20-hour drive in a vehicle that I’m not quite sure can make the trip, complete with my notoriously carsick dog, I’m very thankful to be going home for Thanksgiving.
No, really, I am.
This will be my last trip home before my husband comes back. As a matter of fact, he should be back not too long after my return. And if you ignore the fact that I’ll be putting on at least 10 pounds from mass amounts of mashed potato consumption just before my husband’s homecoming, I’m really thankful for the timing.
No, really, I am.
It will be wonderful to have a distraction to keep me from over-analyzing and over-thinking every little detail about the house. Oh, who am I kidding? The TV is still unmounted and the bedroom is still littered with clothing and cheap jewelry, most of which is probably broken from me stepping on it on my journey from one pile of potential daily outfits to the other. My house could probably use a little over-analysis right about now. Still, I know me. I’ll just stare at everything until I feel so overwhelmed that a stress-relief bubble bath is necessary, followed immediately by a nice relaxing book before bed — in other words, no actual cleaning. But I’m getting there.
No, really, I am.
Just today, I scrubbed my bathrooms down, washed all the dirty clothes and even cleaned up the kitchen. Plus, I put on one of those Scentsy burners, and now the house smells wonderful, giving the illusion that I baked something scrumptious, despite the fact that I can’t actually remember the last time I even turned the oven on.
But what I’m really thankful for, more than the upcoming feast and the inevitable Black Friday shopping is the amazing friends and family who stepped up to the plate to support the spouses with deployed soldiers through all of this. There’s no way I could have made it through this last year without the love and support of my wonderful family, friends and church family. I’m eternally grateful.
No, really I am.
