Bryan County Children’s Fund, a Christmas stocking fund, is a non-profit program designed to assist and support needy families in the county. The organization, in conjunction with Bryan County Family Connection, works to ensure that no child in Bryan County is without a Christmas. The organization has been providing holiday gifts for Bryan County families since 2003. Last year, the group provided holiday gifts for over 500 children.
With help from the community, including local churches, social service agencies, and the school system, the group is able to provide food, clothes, and toys to qualifying families. Applications are distributed and referrals are taken from local agencies. Families are eligible based on their financial need. This year, applications will be available at several locations: The United Way office in Pembroke and Richmond Hill, The Richmond Hill Police Department, and the Bryan County Family Connection Office in Pembroke. Ap plications will be available to the public on Oct. 1 and the deadline to turn in applications is Nov. 19.
Resources are stream-lined through donations and sponsorships. Bryan County citizens can help by adopting a child or family, making a direct monetary donation, or donating clothes and toys to the organization. A golf-tournament sponsored by the Good Ol’ Boys Organization of Richmond Hill is held each year in November and every dollar raised goes to assist families in need. Last year, the group raised over $15,000. This year, the Santa Scramble will be held on Nov. 5 at Sterling Links Golf Course.
