Believe God, have eternal life

In the Old Testament one can read of the man David. He was a man and made mistakes in his life.

One of the most famous accounts about David is his battle with Goliath. When the armies of Israel would not fight the giant, David would.

The reason being was that he believed God. In fact, he told the giant the he came to fight with God on his side.

That is the kind of faith and trust all need to have. All men need to believe God. Put him first in all they do, care for life’s necessities but do not let the physical things get in the way of one’s service and devotion to God.

God has provided man a place to live, creating a world that man can enjoy – a world in which one can have a good and peaceable life. The only thing that God asks is that man obeys him. At this point a problem arises in the minds of some. They fail to see why they must obey God as he has directed.

It is true that in the Bible there are some things are hard to understand, but how to be saved is not one of them. God tells his word how to be saved. One can find that those who followed Jesus had to believe that he was the Son of God. Jesus said, “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:24).

God’s word tells of how important faith is. “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Heb. 11:6).

God also demands that one repent of their sins. “And the times of this ignorance God winked at, but now commandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30).

Man is to have faith in Jesus as the Son of God, repent of sins and then to confess the name of Christ as the Son of God. “…And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God” (Acts 8:38).

The next thing seen through God’s word is that one is to be baptized for the remission of sins, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins …” (Acts 2:38).

The apostle Peter also said, “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ” (I Peter 3:21).

Again, it must be asked, “Why is it so hard to believe God?

May all come to trust in God for the blessings of this life and the blessing of salvation given to man by God.
