Be ready

It seems like every day I hear or read about a tragedy happening somewhere; many times, close to home. The honest truth is that it could happen to our family or to others we love and care about. We never want to see tragedy and we pray that it doesn’t happen but, in reality, it can and many times does happen.

Tragedy so much of the time involves the loss of life. So how do we prepare for it and how do we deal with it?

If it involves us, then there is something we can do before it happens; we can be in a right relationship with God. Scripture reminds us that those who follow Jesus Christ possess eternal life. So, for the believer in Jesus if our life is taken away, we still win. We get to spend eternity in this wonderful place God has prepared for us. Job said in a book named after him, “Though he (God) slay me, yet will I trust in him.”

If God allows us as believers to be taken out of this life prematurely then it is ok if we have made preparations spiritually.

Also, for us who have lost those close to us who have made spiritual preparation, we have assurance that we can spend eternity together. We still will have to grieve but that grief will turn to joy when we think about being able to spend eternity with them.

One last point is that those of us who know Jesus have an inner comforter inside us that helps us through the grief and pain when we suffer loss.

So, if you are not ready, you can get ready no matter when your time of departure from this world might be. We can also allow the Lord to work through us so that we faithfully share the good news of hope and eternal life with those who are not ready.
