A week before the resurrection of Jesus Christ, He was riding a donkey through Jerusalem while the people were praising Him. They were quoting a prophesy from the Old Testament concerning this promised Messiah. They cried out, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
This word hosanna means “Lord save us “ or “Lord help us”. From their point of view, they were seeking deliverance from Roman oppression. From Jesus’ point of view, He was coming to save them from both the power and the penalty of their sins.
Things have not changed; every person on earth is born into sin and is in need of a Savior. There are so many other needs that mankind is crying out for help with and many times they don’t know where to turn. They are needing help relationally with spouses and children. They are needing help financially. They are needing help emotionally.
They are needing help physically. More important above everything else they are needing help spiritually.
The tragedy is that people are looking everywhere else but Jesus, but the good news is that He is there in answer to the many cries for help.
