Wilhelmina Tuten passes away

Wilhelmina Tuten, 72, of Pembroke passed away in the early hours of Friday morning after spending a number of weeks in critical care at St. Joseph’s hospital.

Tuten had been in and out of the hospital since July, after an alleged beating by her son, Clinton Craig Nesmith, 51, when she reportedly refused to give him beer money.

Neesmith remains in Bryan County Jail and is being held without bond for charges of aggravated assault and robbery. Pembroke Police Chief Bill Collins said Tuten’s body has been sent to the GBI crime lab for autopsy. He said police and the Atlantic Juidicial Circuit District Attorney’s office are looking into additional charges against Neesmith.
