A pair of upcoming candidate forums will give Bryan County voters a chance to meet candidates for federal and local
offices. Saturday, U.S. House District 1 candidates Joyce Griggs, Wade Herring and Michelle Munroe, all Democrats and all hoping to unseat incumbent Republican Rep. Buddy Carter, will participate in a meet and greet forum at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Pembroke. The “meet and munch” with candidates is from 11 a.m. until noon and the forum is from 12:30 to 2 p.m.
The Bryan County Democratic Committee is hosting the forum. The public is invited.
Monday, the Richmond Hill Bryan County Chamber of Commerce’s Government Affairs Committee is hosting a forum for candidates for the Bryan County Board of Education at the Richmond Hill City Center. The forum will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and a meet and greet will follow until 8 p.m.
Also Monday, early voting begins for the May 24 primaries. Voters county wide will also be asked whether they want to continue the Transportation Local Option Sales Tax, a penny tax for road infrastructure. Pembroke voters will be asked whether to allow the package sale of distilled spirits in the city limits. Early voting continues until May 20. Early voting in North Bryan will be at Pembroke City Hall, 353 North Main St., and at the Rec Park Gym in Richmond Hall, 508 Timber Trail Road. Early voting will include two Saturday voting days, May 7 and May 14.
Voting on election day, May 24, will be held at precinct locations. Hendrix Park voters will vote at a temporary precinct set up at the Hendrix Park parking lot. Those who vote at the Harn Center in Pembroke will instead cast ballots at City Hall.
