Update: Traffic alerts for next week's work at I-95 and 17
IMG 7367

Lane shifts and closures are set for next week as the contractor begins repairing the damaged overpass at Interstate 95 and Highway 17 in Richmond Hill.

The Georgia Department of Transportation asks drivers to keep the following schedule in mind:

Monday, October 12

I-95 southbound double-lane closure from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Tuesday, October 13

Highway 17 traffic shifts start at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, October 14

I-95 southbound single right-lane closure from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Thursday, October 15

I-95 southbound double-lane closure from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Friday, October 16

I-95 southbound traffic shift with double right-lane closures starts at 7 p.m.

“We ask the public to be patient during this time and find alternate routes in lieu of the Highway 17 at I-95 overpass,” GDOT District Communications Officer Jill Nagel said.

Both northbound lanes of Highway 17 will be closed at the I-95 interchange during the project. One southbound lane will be converted to a northbound lane.

Traffic on I-95 southbound will be reduced from three lanes to two in the construction zone, according to the GDOT. Drivers will use the far left lane and shoulder of the road while workers replace the support beams underneath the middle and right lanes, Nagel said.

Once that work is finished, the traffic flow will shift to the right while crews replace the beams on the left side of I-95 southbound. The speed limit will be lowered in the work zone, Nagel said.
