United Way kicks off Read United Summer Reading program

United Way of the Coastal Empire’s Read United Summer Reading kicked off on June 1. The organization will be giving free books to more than 1,400 children participating in Summer Food Programs in Bryan, Effingham, and Liberty counties. At many sites, volunteers will be present to read with the children.

Read United is a year-round series of programs and services that aim to improve early childhood language and literacy throughout the region.

Through July 28 (every Friday): 11:45 a.m.– 12:15 p.m. at  Villas Apartments, 201 Casey Dr., Richmond Hill. (Free FOR CHILDREN AGES 1-18 **no lunch program on Monday, June 19th and Tuesday, July 4th. Lunch Program: M-F, daily, 11:30-12:30; Reading: 11:45 -12:15)
