Bryan County’s recovery from the April 5, 2022 tornado is ongoing, according to the county’s communications manager, Matt Kent, with much of the repairs being paid for thorugh the county’s insurance.

Perhaps the biggest news from a public participation standpoint is that Hendrix Park baseball fields should be ready for Opening Day in March.

“The fields will have had fresh clay put in the infield, new bleacher stands, and new fencing installed,” Kent said. “While one concession stand and bathroom building was completely destroyed, the other has been repaired and will also be open.”

Kent said the turf field, tennis courts, outdoor basketball courts and much of the lighting has already been replaced.

“The final step will be the rebuilding of the gym, which is estimated to be completed in late 2024 or early 2025,” he said.

Repairs to the courthouse and administration building are expected to be complete dby the end of 2023, Kent added.

That project is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

The detention center is waiting on replacement of safety equipment before it can again house inmates, Kent said.
