Tell us your story

It could be photos of a family reunion, a church picnic or prom night. Or pictures of what happened on your child’s first birthday or a great moment at a rec league game – or just about anything in between.

If you’ve got a camera and a story to tell, the Bryan County News wants you.

"We want Bryan County residents to use us to help tell their stories to the community by sharing their photos," said News Editor Jeff Whitten. "We’ve long encouraged local participation in our opinion pages and on our website through blogs and photo galleries, and we still do. But now we want to take it a step further and provide people in Bryan County with a kind of community scrapbook."

Getting photos in the scrapbook is as easy as using email or dropping off prints at one of our two offices.

If using email, send photos as jpeg attachments to Whitten at jwhitten@bryancountynews.net. Include a caption in the body of the email to explain what’s going on in the photo and don’t forget to put names with faces.

If dropping prints by either News office, please include a self addressed stamped envelope if you would like them to be returned.

In addition, the News is continually looking for columnists to write on a variety of subjects - especially local issues.

"We think our opinion page should be a place for the community to discuss things of local importance," Whitten said.

"It’s a place where the presentation of a diverse mix of ideas can help our readers be more fully informed about the things that will shape their lives, from growth to the environment and the local economy," he continued. "In all of these cases, decisions being made now will have an impact on the quality of life in this community for generations to come. That’s why it’s so important to examine all the issues and a well rounded opinion page is at least a start in making that happen."

If you’re interested in writing opinion columns – whether regularly or on occasion – or want more information about submitting photos and stories, call Whitten at 756-2793 or email him at jwhitten@bryancountynews.net.
