TS Noel

Tropical Storm Noel is now dropping rain on the Bahamas, but the National Weather Service says it expects the storm to peter out in the Atlantic later this week.

At 2 p.m., the NOAA’s Hurricane Center in Florida reported that Noel remains disorganized. It is centered on the eastern tip of Cuba and has started causing heavy rain in the southeastern Bahamas.

The tropical storm warning for Haiti south of Gonaives has been discountinued. The warning for the northern part of Haiti continues. Tropical storm warning are also still in effect in the Bahamas, as wekk as the Turks and Caicois Islands.

At 2, the center of noel was near latitude 20.5 north, longitude 73.8 west or about 30 miles northeast of the eastern tip of Cuba.

The storm is moving northwest at near 15 mph. That movement is expected to continue for at least the next day, taking it over the Bahamas later today and tonight.

Maximum sustained winds are near 45 mph and extend out from center of the storm up to 140 miles.
