While soccer is a beloved sport in countries across the world, some workers in Qatar are being forced to give their lives as they work on preparing the country to host the 2022 World Cup.

The International Trade Union Confederation said they estimate 4,000 workers will die in Qatar by 2022 while working on World Cup-related infrastructure improvements, Christopher Ingraham reported for the Washington Post.

This is significantly higher than the other estimates of work-related deaths in preparation for sporting events, and it is partially due to the governments system of essentially granting employers complete control of any migrant workers they hire, Ingraham reported.

See this graphic from the Washington Post for a visualization of how many people have died preparing Qatar for the World Cup.
