The fishing pier on St. Simons Island is about to get a big renovation.

Glynn County is spending $420,000 on repairs and upgrades to the popular tourist attraction on the coastal Georgia island. Work is scheduled to begin Monday.

Officials say the pier's roofing and railing will get a makeover and new benches will be installed. Its concrete foundation will undergo repairs too. In all, the work is expected to last about four months.

The pier will be closed Monday through Wednesday as work begins next week. But it's expected to be open with limited usage for the rest of the construction period.
