Savannah to get French, German honorary consuls

French and German authorities plan to visit Savannah to name a new honorary consul for France and Germany in the coastal Georgia city.

German Consul General Lutz Hermann Gorgens and French Consul General Pascal Le Deunff plan to visit Savannah together Feb. 3 and 4.

The mission of the honorary consul will primarily be to help and protect French and German citizens living in or passing through coastal Georgia.

The new honorary consul will be presented to the mayor of Savannah next Thursday. The next day, French and German representatives will meet with leaders of the Savannah Economic Development Authority.
