WARNER ROBINS — Authorities say hundreds of jobs are being eliminated at an Air Force base in central Georgia as a result of a military reorganization.

The Telegraph of Macon reports (http://bit.ly/uwyRb5) that a total of 600 positions will be eliminated at Robins Air Force Base.

That number was given in a statement from U.S. Sens. Saxby Chambliss, Johnny Isakson and U.S. Rep. Austin Scott.

The newspaper reports that some of the positions are currently unfilled due to a hiring freeze.

The Air Force Materiel Command said in a statement that a reorganization plan is expected to be completed by Oct. 1, 2012. Other details were not immediately known.

Maj. Gen. Robert McMahon is expected to elaborate more on the impact of the reorganization during a meeting with community leaders on Thursday.
