Ethics complaint filed over speaker's trip

ATLANTA — A member of the newly-formed Georgia Alliance for Ethics Reform has filed a complaint against the lobbyist who took House Speaker David Ralston and members of his family and staff to Europe during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The complaint was filed Monday by Common Cause Georgia and accuses James Christopher Brady of not being a registered lobbyist at the time of the trip and not disclosing details of the trip by the required deadline.

Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission Executive Secretary Stacey Kalberman says the complaint will be sent to Brady on Tuesday.

Ralston has said he went on the trip to learn more about high-speed rail, but critics call it an example of why lobbyist spending should be reined in.

A telephone message left for Brady was not immediately returned.
