The Bryan County Health Department is offering an additional school vaccination and screening event this summer, helping parents and kids get ready for the start of a new school year.
The school health event will be Monday, July 28, at the clinic at 66 Captain Matthew Freeman Drive in Richmond Hill.
“Our event earlier this month was well attended, but I know there are still a lot of children who need vaccinations and screenings before August,” said Barbara Bilbrey, Nurse Manager of the Bryan County Health Department. “We all want to avoid a lastminute scramble for appointments.”
The clinic in Pembroke is hosting its school health event on Monday, July 21.
Appointments are required for the Richmond Hill and Pembroke events and can be scheduled by calling 912-756- 2611 in Richmond Hill or 912-653-4331 in Pembroke.
As a reminder: Children entering pre-K or Kindergarten, 7th grade, and 11th grade likely need booster vaccines to meet school requirements. Children entering a Georgia school for the first time — regardless of grade — must have an eye/ear/dental screening. If your child has already attended school in Georgia, they don't need a new screening. But if your child is attending school for the first time ever, or is transferring from out of state, they'll need this exam.
If your child is transferring from another state, please bring their immunization records to the health department several days before their appointment. This gives staff an opportunity to transfer all the information into Georgia’s immunization registry prior to the health clinic event. Children who do not have the required vaccinations and screenings can be unenrolled from school. If your child needs health services but cannot attend one of these events, please call the health department right away to schedule an appointment for another day and time.
Appointments fill up quickly as the summer break ends.
