School budget hearing set for June 14
Bryan County Schools

The second of two public meetings on Bryan County School’s proposed budgets, including a $100 million general operating fund for the 2023 fiscal year beginning July 1, is set for 8 a.m. June 14 at the Bryan County Schools Central Office in Black Creek. The school system is not raising the current millage rate, according to officials.

For context, the fast-growing system’s 2022 operating budget was about $91.8 million. In 2012, it was $52.3 million. At that time the millage rate was 15.537 for schools. It is presently 15.075 mills, however, property owners since 2019 have been paying an additional 1.5 mills to fund a $100 million school bond issue.
