Santa visits members of The Crew in Pembroke
courthouse
Santa brought presents to members of "The Crew" Monday at the Bryan County Courthouse. The group are special needs adults who clean the courthouse.

Santa took time from his busy schedule to stop by the Bryan County Courthouse Monday and give gifts to a group of workers the staff affectionately refer to as "the crew."

The crew is a group of five special needs adults who clean the courthouse under the supervision of Debbie Fields, who did not release their names.

"They do a really good job and work hard through the year," Fields said.

The faces and voices of the crew were animated as they opened such gifts as shoes, socks, shirts, snow globes and other goodies and called out "thank you" with each one.

Clerk of Court Becky Crowe, who organizes the annual visit, said Santa has been coming to the courthouse for the crew over 10 years, and it’s always fun to see the excitement in their faces as they open presents.

"If anyone needs to be reminded about the true meaning of Christmas, they need to come by (the courthouse) when Santa is here giving out presents. These guys light up like a Christmas tree. They love it," Crowe said.

The court clerk, tag and tax assessor’s offices, Probate court, county commissioners and development authority contribute to Santa’s expenses.
