Roberts vice chair again

District 4 representative Toby Roberts was reappointed vice chairman of the Bryan County Board of Commissioners at the meeting held Jan. 6.

Blondean Newman, 2nd District, was scheduled to fill the position, but declined and recommended Roberts continue in the position. The commission unanimously approved her recommendation.

"I appreciate the confidence Ms. Blondean and the other commissioners have shown in me by reappointing me to another term as vice chair," Roberts said.

Roberts said at the top of the agenda for the commissioners is finishing Henderson Park, four-laning Hwy. 144, and starting the courthouse annex in Richmond Hill, as well as updating Hendrix Park and road issues in north Bryan County.

In other business:

- Donna Waters was reappointed county clerk and Charles Brown was reappointed county Attorney.

- The road to Henderson Park in Richmond Hill is ready for paving and completion is expected soon. Commissioners discussed holding an open house type event to coincide with the start of soccer.

Commissioners voted to award the bid for two county ambulances to Med Tech at a cost of $103,286

each. If the commission pays early, the company will reduce the cost by $3,000 each.

County Administrator Phil Jones noted that funds were already appropriated from SPLOST 5 to cover the cost and the payment owuld be made early.
