Over 200 people came out Tuesday when the City of Pembroke dedicated the newly paved road near the community center in honor of the late Judge John R. Harvey.

City administrator Frank Etheridge said the city council voted to name the street ‘Judge John R. Harvey Drive’ during their September meeting due to the judge and North Bryan native’s stellar reputation in the legal profession and many contributions to the town.

Many of Judge Harvey’s relatives and friends were on hand and several took the podium to say a few words.

"It is truly an honor that the city would even consider such a great recognition as this," said his widow Olivia Harvey. "Our family deeply appreciates this and everyone who has come out today to share in the dedication."

Judge Jay Stewart spoke of how appropriate it is that the street leads to the courthouse, where Harvey spent a lot of time.

"I commend the mayor and council for taking the initiative to do this," Stewart said. "I can’t think of a better person to dedicate a street to. Speaking for the legal profession, Judge Harvey is somebody we’ve all learned from and has made a great impact on this community."
