The Exchange Club of Richmond Hill named its officers and board of directors for the 2018-2019 year during a luncheon Wednesday at the City Center.

Janet Thayer was named the club’s 35th president, taking over from Steven Asplund. She presented Asplund with a plaque for his service.

“It was my honor and privilege to serve all of you for the past year,” said Asplund, who thanked a number of members for their support before presenting Thayer with the gavel to adjourn the meeting.

Thayer, who served as president-elect during the past year, called it an honor.

“Guys, we’ve had an outstanding year and the most service awards we’ve ever won,” she said. “I have some big shoes to fill and the new board has some big shoes to fill. I think we will.”

Georgia District Exchange Club President Sidney Blanton spoke at the meeting and swore in the new officers and board members. That group includes Chet Gregg as president-elect, Jerry Cohen as treasurer, Tera Fisher as secretary, Asplund as immediate past-president, and Nikki Palmer, Chris Raiford, Jason Bryant and Bonnie Proctor as directors.

The service club meets Wednesday at the City Center. The Exchange Club of Richmond Hill supports and recognizes students, local public safety workers and has held a popular kid’s fishing derby for more than 25 years.
