Richmond Hill City Council moves airport authority vote to May

At April’s regular meeting, Richmond Hill City Council decided to postpone its vote until May on whether or not to officially support the Bryan County Airport Authority.

This decision comes after Councilmember and Mayor Pro-Tem Cindy Hatala announced during the meeting that she had received “significant information” that had not yet been revealed to all Councilmembers.

“I obtained significant information that has not yet been shared with all the city council members,” Hatala said. “I respectfully request that we postpone the vote on the prepared resolution until all members have had the opportunity to discuss this information.”

New information came to the forefront after a conversation with Georgia State Representative Ron Stephens, the city attorney, and the finance director, Hatala explained. That information has not yet been shared with the public.

Established in 2025 and created by Gov. Brian Kemp, the Bryan County Airport Authority is tasked with overseeing the development of Richmond Hill’s planned noncommercial airport. The airport is slated to serve small, private aircraft as well as military and hospital places.

But last December, Bryan County Commissioners voted to suspend funding for the project.

After two residents spoke out against the airport during public comments, the City Council then voted to postpone its vote until the next regular meeting on Tuesday, May 5.
