From Richmond Hill Police Department reports. This is in an effort to give subscribers an idea of what law enforcement officers run across during their shifts. It is by no means a comprehensive account of the number of cases handled by law enforcement and first responders.
DUI: A 20-year-old Richmond Hill woman was charged with DUI on Sept. 4 after she ran into the gas pumps at Kroger. The report said police were called to the pumps around 10:30 p.m. regarding a vehicle that had “collided with the barrier guarding the fuel pump,” and were “shown both the offending vehicle and the driver.” Both the pump and the vehicle were badly damaged. The driver was clearly under the influence, with “eyes that were extremely bloodshot and she had slurred speech,” an officer noted in his report, adding that she “at times repeat her statements and ask me if I received the information she just provided me.”
What’s more, the woman had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and, when she got out of the car “was unsteady on her feet and had defecated on herself with fecal matter running down between her legs.”
Because the woman had just hit the gas pumps, the officer chose “not to administer field sobriety tests,” but did ask her to take the preliminary breath test, and she had a hard time “understanding the directions and continued to blow in the air outside of the mouthpiece.”
Still, she was able to provide a sample – it was a .143 – which led her to be charged. EMS came to take her blood, then the woman was released to family members so she could get medical help. Her car was towed.
Not sure if this is irony or not, but the last name of the woman who reported the accident was Corona.
Fraud: A man reported Sept. 9 he and his family “had recently moved from Michigan and had all their belongs stolen by the moving company.” The man said there were old tax documents in the property stolen, and someone used that to create a Capitol One account in his name.” The man said he wasn’t out of any money yet but the credit card company wanted a report made.
Theft: A woman reported Sept. 12 her vehicle broke down I-95 near exit 90, and she left it on the side of the road around 7 p.m. Sept. 10. “She advised she returned on 9/11/22 and had it towed to her dress. Once she, and the vehicle,” arrived back at her address she attempted to start it and it sounded funny.”
The woman said the two truck driver “said he saw someone under the vehicle when he was passing on the opposite side, but assumed it was (the owner) and was unable to get a description before turning around.”
The woman said the driver checked underneath the woman’s SUV and “advised that the catalytic converter had been cut off her vehicle.”
Wanted person: An officer was directing traffic for a funeral procession around 12:25 p.m. Sept. 7 at Highway 144 and Exchange Street when a driver kept going and made a U-turn “after already being directed to stop.”
Once the funeral process went by – It was a few seconds later – the officer pulled the driver’s SUV over. The driver, who had a Richmond Hill address “acknowledged that he saw me however he thought that he was allowed to make a left turn,” the officer reported, noting he told the man “if an officer is directing traffic and signaling for him to stop he needed to stop.” The man was described as “receptive to this and acknowledged his mistake.” He also turned out to be wanted on a bench warrant in Columbus for DUI. He was arrested. His wife came to pick up the car.
Theft: A Highway 17 convenience store clerk reported a theft Sept. 4 by a man “he only knows by Roger.”
The clerk said he’s had several previous issues with the man, who on the date of the report “came to the store and asked about prices on several items. He then grabbed a 24 ounce Mountain Dew and two 12 ounce Jumex mango soda cans and walked out of the store.” The clerk gave police a description of Roger, but they were unable to find him.
