Richmond Hill High School seniors Savannah Flanagan and Jackson Martin tied for the STAR Student Award. They are also system winners for Bryan County.

Savannah is the daughter of James and Cheryl Flanagan. Jackson is the son of Christopher and Cara Martin. Both students earned the STAR Student recognition for academic achievement and performance on the SAT.

Each student winner also selected their STAR Teacher. STAR Teachers are selected by the STAR Student as the teacher that supported and influenced them in their academic success and personal growth.

Savannah selected Arlie Cooper who teaches AP Research. Jackson selected Jennifer Kea who teaches AP World History.

As system winners for Bryan County, they will compete with other system winners in a regional competition. Region winners compete for the honor of being named State PAGE STAR Student. STAR Teachers continue on with their STAR Students at every level of the program.

The Richmond Hill Lions Club is the local STAR program sponsor. Tommy Brookshire, Vice President, and Donna Hoke, Scholarship Committee Chairperson, announced the honor and presented both Savannah and Jackson with checks for $500. The Lions Club representatives stated, "We are very proud of Savannah and Jackson and Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Kea and the academic excellence they exemplify at Richmond Hill High School."

The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, now in its 63rd year, is sponsored, administered, and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and the PAGE Foundation. Since its creation, the STAR program has honored nearly 28,000 students and the teachers they have selected as having had the most influence on their academic achievement. To obtain the 2021 STAR nomination, graduating high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.
