An early evening fire destroyed a Richmond Hill home Sunday, but the residents were all able to it out safely, according to officials.
Bryan County Emergency Services Chief Freddy Howell said the home on Deer Road was almost fully engulfed in flames when firefighters reached the scene around 5 p.m.
Firefighters from Bryan County, Richmond Hill and even Liberty County were on hand to put out the blaze that required at least two tankers supplying water for the effort, Howell said.
“A portion of the roof had burned through and some of the structure had started to collapse shortly after (our) arrival, preventing firefighters from accessing the inside of the structure, requiring an exterior attack,” he said. “Overhaul and mop up of the scene was an extended operation since there were a lot of hidden small fires.”
