Two families were displaced when a fire destroyed a home in Fort Stewart's South Bryan Village Friday night. No one was injured.
The Fort Stewart Fire Department arrived to find the home engulfed with flames five minutes after receiving the dispatch call at 6:22 p.m. The Hinesville Fire Department was called in to help extinguishing the fire. Firefighters continued to douse the smoking structure with water as late as 7:30 p.m.
The families, who were not identified, were relocated to an area hotel. The Red Cross was notified to assist them.
A total of 19 firefighters, 15 from Fort Stewart and four from Hinesville fought the blaze, using three Fort Stewart engines and one from Hinesville.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
