Troopers issue 123 tickets in January

State Troopers from the Rincon Post of the Georgia State Patrol investigated 13 traffic crashes during the month of January in Bryan County, with seven resulting in injuries and zero traffic deaths, according to Sgt. 1st Class Chris Nease.  

Nease said troopers from Post 42 also issued 123 traffic citations in the county during the month. The total includes seven arrests for driving under the influence, 60 citations for speeding, 12 seat belt violations and two child restraint violations. Troopers also issued 70 warnings.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
