Tornado watch, freeze watch issued

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Liberty, Long, Bryan, Wayne, Chatham countikes and most of eastern Georgia until 6 p.m. today.

There is also is freeze watch for our entire area from Tuesday evening until Wednesday morning.

The cooling will leave the high temperatures across South Georgia in the 40s on Tuesday. The lows could dip into the 20s Monday morning and Tuesday night. Temperatures will climb into the 50s Wednesday and 60s on Thursday, according to the service.

A watch means conditions for a storm are possible.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
