Magazine scam
May 27 –
A resident of Buckeye Drive in Richmond Hill reported to police that she had been sold two magazine subscriptions by a white male and white female for an alleged competition. The woman said she wrote two checks, each made out to the first name only of Riley. After the salespeople left, the woman called the number on her receipt for Worldwide Subscriptions but received a recording that the number was no longer in service. She then called her bank and placed stop payment orders for the two checks. The woman left her apartment and found the two subjects in the complex parking lot. She asked for her checks but was told they would not give them to her. She then returned home and called police.
