Richmond Hill High School was on lockdown briefly Tuesday afternoon after suspects in an I-95 vehicle chase fled on foot near the school, according to the Richmond Hill Police Department.

Georgia State Patrol and the McIntosh County Sheriff's Office were pursuing the vehicle when it crashed near exit 87 on northbound I-95, according to Capt. Jason Sakelarios. The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot toward the Piercefield neighborhood near the school and were taken into custody a short time later.

An alert from Bryan County Schools said that Richmond Hill Primary School, Richmond Hill Elementary School and Carver Elementary School limited outside activities during the lockdown at the high school.

"Bryan County Schools has an excellent partnership with law enforcement and we want to thank them for the outstanding communication and support," the text alert said.

Media reports indicate the suspects were fleeing a residential burglary in McIntosh County. The Bryan County and Liberty County sheriff's offices were also involved in the pursuit and capture of the suspects.
