FORT STEWART — Military officials say a civilian wounded at Fort Stewart this weekend was accidentally shot by an 11-year-old.

A Savannah news outlet reported that the shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. Saturday at a hunting preserve on the base. Civilians do not need to be connected to the military to hunt there.

According to Fort Stewart officials, the victim is a Richmond Hill resident and was treated and released at Memorial Health University Medical Center. However, the name of the victim has not been released by Fort Stewart because the individual has no ties to the military.
