Police are investigating the death of a 47-year-old Savannah man who was found shot in his wrecked pickup on Ogeechee Road after it crashed into the rear of an SUV Tuesday afternoon.

Jeffrey A. Smith, a Savannah resident and owner of Precision Tattoo & Body Piercing in Richmond Hill, was pronounced dead Tuesday at Memorial University Medical Center after the wreck that occurred around 5 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police discovered more than 60 grams of cocaine and scales in Smith’s GMC truck and have confirmed that drugs contributed to the shooting.

The driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer the pickup had struck was transported to Memorial for treatment of less serious injuries.
