Effective Jan. 17, the speed limit on Georgia Highway 144 West and 119 will change from 55 mph to 45 mph.
Additionally, the speed limit at the Gate 5 intersection to Pass and Permit on Georgia Highway 144 East will change from 45 mph to 35 mph.
A new traffic light in the vicinity of Austin Road on Georgia Highway 144 East is intermittently operational now. Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution in the area due to increased traffic flow in the new 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team area.

Nuclear plant's safety discussed at meeting

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2017 safety performance of the Hatch Nuclear Power Plant during an open house from 4-6 p.m. April 24 in Room 171 of the Southeastern Technical College, 3001 East First St., Vidalia. The two-unit Hatch plant is located near Baxley, about 20 miles south of Vidalia, and is operated by Southern Nuclear Operating Co. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site, will be available to discuss its performance.
