ST. MARYS — Police shot and killed a man they described as a suspect after earlier finding two charred bodies on a sailboat near Georgia's coast.

St. Marys police said 67-year-old David Jerome Trauger was confronted by officers at an apartment complex Wednesday night and ordered to surrender. Police say he raised a weapon toward officers and was shot.

A medical examiner on Wednesday concluded that human remains found on the boat that burned on the North River were those of two people.

The Brunswick News reports (http://bit.ly/NEPU0w) that investigators initially believed the skeletal remains of one person had been found on the boat Monday.

Authorities say the fire that was so intense that bones were reduced to fragments. After more investigation, they determined the remains belonged to two people, whose identities haven't been released.
